Character Sheet

Name/Title: Dunstan Prest

First Impression: Though he makes quite an impression on the eye physically, one look at his face and you know he is a good man. Dunstan comes across as kind hearted and gentle when spoken to or when one sees his actions. He sometimes forgets his strength, he has been known in the past to accidentally break fragile items. Because of this, Dunstan often handles things very delicately and with great care.

Sex/Gender: Male

Age: 29

Occupation: Barber-Surgeon

Appearance: Dunstan is a very large man, quite tall and broad of form. His arms and legs are big and round with muscles and make him look bulky. He can appear stocky or heavy set, though a fair portion of it is muscle. Dunstan has a large belly, though, from being well fed in the past. Some people describe him as a big oaf, others describe him as pleasant and huggable.

Hair: Medium brown hair, cropped short. If the term had been coined, he would say that he isnt balding, but that he just has a receding hair line.

Eyes: Kind eyes, hazel in color but mostly brown.

Complexion: Plain complexion, not fair and pale, but not heavily tanned, either.

Stature, Build and Carriage: Tall, broad, and carried like a gentle giant.

Distinguishing Characteristics: Obviously his size. An aura of gentleness. Very skilled with a blade.

Attire: Sturdy navy trousers, wide suspenders. A nice worsted waistcoat when he goes out. Bloodstained leather apron.

What they Carry: He has a set of utensils all used for his work, that are kept in a leather case. When he is not using them, the case rolls up and can be carried easily under an arm.

Parentage: Josiah Prest (a butcher) and Margery Oberton. Partners for over thirty years but never married. His widowed mother still lives with him.

Relationships: Maude Prest, his lovely second wife.

Siblings: He has several siblings, but they have all wed and left home.

Other Family: Dunstans first wife, Delores, who died during child birth. His son, Jonah, who was born brain-damaged. The child did not survive longer than a few months before it passed on. Dunstan also has a lot of nieces and nephews, who come to visit from time to time.

Friends: Dunstan is an old friend of the Beaufort family. During his time as a Flying Barber, he made friends with the Grosemore family and a few other noble families. He is quiet a friendly fellow, so he often makes friends with the customers that come in which he shaves or pulls teeth or sets bones for. Dunstan is also a bit of a favourite at the local pub.

Personality: Kind. Good. Honourable. Protective of those he cares about. Gentle. Occasionally afraid of his strength. It hurts him when people fear him. Very careful about things like God, and women, and children. He wants children of his own, someday. He was a great father in the brief time that his son was alive. Sometimes he feels a little worried when holding a very small child, however, as they are so very delicate. Sometimes he feels a little confused when things move too fast or he is in a place that is too loud, but he is not at all dim-witted, just a slow thinker who needs to ponder things over. He is no stranger to making fun of himself, either, and sometimes his ego is non-existent, however he is more modesty than anything else. While Dunstan is very friendly and giving, he keeps certain things guarded, often emotional things or anything to do with his first wife. He is very loving of his new wife and treats her very well and with great care, not wanting to lose her, as well.

Likes: His new wife, children, the memory of his first wife, working, his tool case, his mother (sometimes), food and ale.

Dislikes: Abuse of authority, people fearing him, general rudeness, people who mistreat children or women, death of loved ones.

Loves: Maude, Delores, his son, and extended family, especially his nieces and nephews.

Most Valued: A portrait of Delores before she died and a braid of her blonde hair, his tool case.

Skill/Talents: Dunstan is very skilled at his job. He does not come off as particularly bright, however that is only because he spent most of his mental focus on what his jobs were to be. Barber-surgeons have a wide gamut of skills and some of them are very difficult. When it comes to general knowledge, Dunstan lags behind in the race, when it comes to his job, he is highly skilled.

Strengths: His work, friendliness, being protective of people, knowing what he is doing, and being a very good friend, he is also helpful to those in need.

Shortcoming: He often appears dim and does not know much about the way things work outside of his profession. Sometimes he can be easy to take advantage of, especially if one is playing on his kind heart to get their way. Because he is so strong, Dusntan sometimes breaks things without intending to. Also, due to his size, people sometimes fear him.

Current Residence: A small house behind his shop on Fleet Street.

Lifestyle: Quiet lifestyle, he wakes up, cares for Maude and his mother, goes to work in his shop, tries to give aid to those in need as often as possible, and usually ends the day by meeting with a friend or two, going to the local pub, or spending time with Maude.

Activities: Spending time with Maude, reading the newspaper, eating meals prepared by Maude, going to the pub, talking with friends, missing Delores and his son, and working.

Interests: Maude, barbering, surgery, dentistry, amputation, butchery, work, women, children, good, quality ale, a good meal, and some sports.

History:

Dunstan was raised among a large family and took after his dad quite a bit. He studied a little butchery and worked in his dads shop when he was old enough to help. When old enough to start an apprenticeship, he worked for a local barber-surgeon that was a friend of his fathers. As Dunstan was among the older children in the family, he often helped take care of his younger siblings. He also made friends with some of the street kids in the area and would sneak food out to them when he could.

When Dunstan was of age to start his own shop and had made enough money to do so, he did. He met Delores when he was very young and they had been sweethearts for some time before they got married. She helped him run the shop in the background, taking care of finer details that did not have to do with the actual labour. Dunstans father died shortly after they married and his mother moved in with him and Delores.

After they had been married for a few years, Delores fell pregnant. Everything went along quiet well up until the day that she was meant to give birth. Complications in the birthing process lead to the Delores unfortunate death. The child survived but anyone could see there was something terribly wrong with the boy. His son, Jonah, only lived a few months before he, too, joined his mother in death.

After both his wife and son died, Dunstan lost a little of the great man that he once was. While still friendly and helpful, he spent a full two years in mourning and once that was through, he still did not go out as often as he used to. Eventually, Dunstan turned back into his former self, though his friend that had known him the longest could see that he was never quite the same.

Some time later, his friend Whitney Beaufort introduced him to Maude one night. Both Beaufort and Maude worked together at one time. Maude and Dunstan fell into a sweet relationship and eventually married. It was good for both of them, as they took similar interest in some things and because Maude was an excellent chef. They soon married and Maude began helping Dunstan with his work as Delores had. For the most part, they get along well, but as any couple, they have their little problems.

Motivations/Goals: To take good care of the people (most of them poor) who come to him for medicine, and to please the customers (mostly rich) who come to him for barbering. To support his wife and keep her happy. To generally just do right by everyone who depends on him. To maybe, eventually someday, have a family. A living one.

Quote: The most a man can do is be good at what he does, the most a man can hope for is a happy life.
