Her Majesty's Agency

Figures of Note

John Brown

Mycroft Holmes

Queen Victoria

Piccadilly Circus

It's long been rumoured that far underground beneath the Stature of Christian Charity (popularly known as 'Eros') in Piccadilly is some sort of secret gathering place. The whispered rumour is that the Freemasons meet here. It's said they perform their secret rituals and pass the secrets of rule from hand to hand in wax-sealed documents. It's also said sometimes that the Golden Dawn sings it's dirges here below the earth, that there are secrets only the men in robes and walls lit by flickering candlelight are privy to.

None of these is completely true. There was a time that the underground chambers were used for the needs of a secret society. ...and then the Agency came, the most secret and exclusive society of all. The few rooms have been transformed into a seemingly endless warren of tunnels, room and secret areas full of every sort of amazing technology and secret activity.

Her Majesty's Academy of Modern Science and Medicine

The Agency has a rather well-maintained front, the Academy. Many Agents and even Associates work there during the day, either in Proffessorial positions or as other staff. And it's no secret that many of the new Recruits are taken from the student body as well.

Associates

Not actually part of the Agency proper, Associates are nonetheless indispensable to the Agency's work. Although they aren't members and so don't have the intelligence or clearance that full Agents do, Associates are typically selected for some skill or area of knowledge that they possess.

Agents

The following classes make up full Agents. Although there are a dizzying array of different jobs that they perform and talents required, they all have one mission: To protect the Queen and the Empire.

Operatives

These are the Agents, most exclusive of all, that actually carry out assignments. Their assignments can be anything from assassinating foreign threats to hunting down supernatural beasties in the sewers beneath the city. Many Operatives find that the job isn't as...glamourous as promised, but every bit as dangerous.

Observers

Observations is likely the closest area to the actual Observers, and the second most likely to be put in danger. These are the spies, the detectives and the people who put their noses in where they ought not be. They're also in charge of monitoring the media and the tides of public opinion, and advising the other areas on how to go from there.

Tacticians

Well educated in both classic military and guerrilla tactics, these Agents are the advisers of the Operatives and Observers. They decide how to complete each mission with the highest chance of success and, after that, the lowest chance of loss of personnel.

Researchers

This is likely the largest area, equal only perhaps to Engineering. Here are everything from scholars translating dead languages to scientists puttering away, creating new plant life, poisons, anabaric trasmitters, explosives...

Engineers

These are the tinkerers and inventors, the crafters of the Agency. They develop new technologies, and improve those that already exist, often dreaming up new applications and forms of inventions as well. The other areas of the Agency tend to joke about Research and Engineering, calling them 'Mad Scientists'. they aren't half right.

Other Areas

Recruiters

Recruitment is the area in the Agency in charge of finding new Agents, and Associates as well. They also watch over new Agents for a while, making sure everything is going well. The Recruiters are often in regular jobs around London, always watching for those who have useful skills of areas of knowledge...or for those who have that spart, who are made of the stuff the Agency needs.

Dispatch

Dispatch is the area of the Agency in charge of assigning missions and choosing who will carry them out. They also tend to control things like cleanup and media.

Control

Ah, Control. These are the fine fellows in charge of it all. They do all the things one would expect of those running the show, and a bit extra. Their highest communication tends to be with Dispatch, but they show their work everywhere through the Agency. In the end, their decisions affect everyone else.
